Hamptons flight questions

Timing, airports, helicopters, luggage, prices and the Sunday return. Can't see yours? Ask it in your request.

How long is the flight from New York to the Hamptons?

Between 35 and 45 minutes from Teterboro or Westchester to East Hampton, Westhampton Beach or Montauk. A helicopter from Manhattan takes a similar time in the air, without the drive to an airport.

Which Hamptons airport should we land at?

East Hampton for East Hampton, Sag Harbor and Amagansett; Westhampton Beach for Quogue, Westhampton and larger jets; Montauk for the far end of the South Fork in a turboprop or small aircraft.

Helicopter or plane?

A helicopter saves the trip to New Jersey or White Plains and suits two or three people with soft bags. A plane carries more people and luggage and copes with more weather; helicopters are more sensitive to low cloud and fog, so keep a backup in mind on grey days.

What does a flight to the Hamptons cost?

As a planning estimate, a one-way light jet from Teterboro runs about $7,500 to $11,800 including the federal excise tax, assuming the aircraft flies back empty; a turboprop roughly $3,900 to $6,900. The quote then adds segment and airport fees.

Can we fly back on Sunday evening?

Yes, but so does everyone else. Sunday evening is the most requested slot of the weekend, so ask for it when you book the Friday flight, and consider Monday morning if your week allows.

How much can we bring?

Jets and turboprops take normal weekend luggage, within limits the operator sets by weight. Helicopters are tighter: soft bags, and nothing bulky. List bags, bikes or surfboards in your request so we match the aircraft.

Is there room for the dog?

Usually. Most operators accept a dog in the cabin once they've approved it, and a well-behaved one barely notices a 40-minute flight. Tell us size and breed in advance.

Do you ask for a membership fee or deposit?

We don't. A quote is free and carries no commitment, and payment only follows once you've picked an aircraft and signed the charter agreement.

Can we leave on Thursday instead?

Yes, and on long weekends it is often the smartest move: Thursday evening avoids the Friday rush entirely and adds a night on the East End.

Does the aircraft wait for us all weekend?

It can, with crew hotels and a daily minimum for the days it sits, or it can fly home and come back. On a route this short, we price both and show you which is cheaper for your dates.

Can we fly on from the Hamptons to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard?

Yes. Choose Multi-city in the form, enter the first flight and list the next ones in the notes. A single aircraft for the whole trip often costs less than separate bookings.

What if fog rolls in?

The operator and crew make the call on whether a flight can go safely, and that call stands. Airplanes cope with low cloud better than helicopters; if the forecast is uncertain, ask us to keep an airplane option ready.

Are there limits on when we can land in East Hampton?

East Hampton's curfew and noise procedures are voluntary at present, though the town has pushed for binding limits. We check the position for your date before quoting, and suggest Westhampton Beach or Montauk if they work better.
